Safe storage and your PTA

Applying for a Permit To Acquire, start to finish.

You do the whole thing yourself, online, through your own Service NSW account. You do not need a club confirmation letter from the Secretary first.

How the application goes

Sign in to Service NSW

Go to your own account, follow the Police link and choose Apply for a PTA. The first time, you will be asked to prove your identity — driver licence, Medicare card and so on.

Give the club approval number

One of the questions asks which club supports your application. Ours is 403 898 484.

Give your safe storage event number

This is the number police issued when they inspected your storage. Lost it? Call the Firearms Registry on 1300 362 562 and they will read it back to you.

No inspection yet? Two options

Either complete the statutory declaration below, sign it in front of a witness and return it to the Secretary, or ask your local police station for a safe storage inspection.

The Secretary certifies, and it goes through

The Registry emails the Secretary to confirm you are a financial member, that your storage is adequate, and that your shooting activities are as stated. Once that is done your application continues.

Forms and fact sheets

Return the declaration to the Secretary in person or by email: se*******@*******et.au
