Visit CLDPC for pistol or rifle shooting
Licensed visiting shooters are welcome to join suitable scheduled matches or arrange practice when a range is available. Contact the Secretary before travelling so we can confirm what is on and what your licence and equipment allow.
Who can shoot here
Visiting shooters are part of club life
Visiting shooters are a normal part of club life at CLDPC, and we are glad to have them. Plenty of our own members first came here as someone’s guest.
CLDPC is an ISSF-based target pistol club, and visiting ISSF shooters are welcome on the line with our members — air pistol on the indoor range, or rimfire and centrefire pistol outdoors. Licensed rifle shooters can also be accommodated for practice, a scheduled match or sighting in, when the appropriate range is available.
We arrange visiting shooters around club activities rather than hiring lanes by the hour. What we can accommodate on a given day depends on our range approval, our facilities and the programme scheduled. If you shoot something outside the ISSF programme, a quick conversation will establish whether we can host it or whether another range would suit you better.
Before you travel: call the Secretary so we can confirm what is scheduled, which ranges are free and what you may shoot. All shooters present a current firearms licence before shooting — checked every visit, for everyone, members included — and a visitor range fee is payable on the day.
Come on an available shooting day and you will usually find someone happy to show you around.

On the range
What you can shoot here
Four rules apply to every round fired on the outdoor ranges — rifle or pistol, member or visitor.
Subsonic
Nothing above the speed of sound.
Lead, not jacketed
Cast lead only. No jacketed ammunition.
No larger than .38
.38 Special and .357 are fine, loaded to subsonic target levels.
A pistol cartridge
A round that can be fired in a pistol.
It is the load that counts, not the headstamp. No magnum loads, and no high-velocity hunting ammunition.
Our range approval caps calibre at .38. Shooting is at 25 and 50 metres.
Please check your ammunition against these conditions before buying or travelling. A gun shop has no way of knowing what our range approval allows, and ammunition is difficult to return once bought. If you are unsure about a particular load, contact the club and we will help you confirm it. Rifle specifics are on the rifle shooting page.
Indoors
The air range
Ten metres, indoors, on electronic targets. None of the outdoor ammunition rules apply here.
Calibre is .177. Air pistols must be target air pistols — the ones built for ISSF competition, generally carrying the F in a pentagon mark that identifies them as low powered.
Air rifles are not permitted unless a committee member has examined and approved the rifle first. High-powered .177 and .22 air rifles destroy electronic targets, and we have lost targets that way.

On the day
Shoot alongside our members
Our members primarily come here to practise and compete in scheduled matches. When a suitable match is running, visitors are welcome to shoot it alongside our members. It is a good deal more interesting than using a lane by yourself and one of the quickest ways to meet people at the club.
Rifle practice, sighting-in and shooting outside the regular ISSF programme depend on the range and programme available that day. Confirm these arrangements with the Secretary before travelling.
The club calendar shows what is running and when. If in doubt, call the Secretary before visiting.

We are approved for Categories A, B, H and G, so one membership covers rifle, pistol and collecting.
Members book the ranges and shoot the club matches.
