A sport the whole family can shoot

Target pistol is one of the few sports where a twelve-year-old, a parent and a grandparent can stand on the same line, shoot the same match and be genuinely competitive with each other. At CLDPC plenty of families do exactly that.

Juniors

Young people start at 12

Juniors shoot on a Minor’s Firearm Permit, with a parent or guardian’s consent and supervision throughout. It is a real pathway into the sport, and it is how a good number of our members began.

Air pistol first

Almost every junior begins on air pistol at 10 metres. It is quiet, there is no recoil to manage, and the skills it teaches — stance, hold, trigger release, concentration — are the same ones the senior shooters are still working on.

Coached, not left alone

New juniors are paired with experienced members who teach them properly from the first session. Safe habits are built in from the start, and a junior is never on the line without their supervisor beside them.

We pay their match entry

The club covers the entry fee for every junior shooting a competition at CLDPC — our own juniors and visiting juniors alike, whichever club they belong to. Competition should not be the expensive part of learning the sport.

Family membership

Bring the rest of the household

We aim to keep membership affordable, with generous discounts for juniors, spouses and partners. Families learn the same skills, shoot the same matches and encourage each other through them.

It also solves the problem every shooting family knows: one person takes up the sport, and the rest of the household spends Saturday waiting in the car park. Here they can be on the line instead.

Before you join

Come and try it first

Nobody needs to commit to anything to find out whether the family enjoys it. A supervised introductory session takes two to three hours, we provide the pistols, and everyone who wants a turn gets one.

Everyone taking part needs identification, juniors included, and a parent or guardian completes the consent for a junior to shoot. Speak with us beforehand and we’ll walk you through it.

Talk to us about the family

Tell us who wants to shoot and how old they are, and we’ll explain the options, the costs and what the first few months look like.
